Black Swan!

Yeah, what’s new. Instead of studying till the neurones in my brain split into half, I watched a movie.

Before anything else, I’d like to explain why I’m so eager to watch this movie.

1. The hype. Come on, if you haven’t heard about the movie, you either live in a cave or you’re dead. Everyone and their great-grandmothers have heard of this show.
2. It’s M18. All hail rebellion and ignorance of movie ratings!
3. It’s BLOODY M18. And all the people I hang out with in school? Their birthdays are in February/March. While they’re squealing about their upcoming birthdays and the movies that they can watch, I bitterly celebrate my third month of being 17. My new policy: spoil before you get spoiled.
4. Natalie Portman. She is one half of a pair of chopsticks. (The other one can be Keira Knightley.)

I quite liked the show. Considering it’s about ballet, it’s already artistic by default. Unless you're Barney in a pink tutu. (God, the colour clash. I'm sorry for the mental image.) The music – OH MY GOD the gorgeous classical music – fit in really well, and subtly, with the movies. Props to the soundtrack, because it’s really difficult to conjure one up with all the tracks interweaving seamlessly with the movie. The only outstanding track was the Swan Lake one, whatever it’s called, and aptly so, since it IS the climax of the movie, and the music rightly emphasises the importance of that scene. Have you ever watched 500 Days of Summer? Or Gossip Girl, or any other US TV drama. They have a knack for throwing in random songs that seemingly encapsulate the scene of the moment; but what does Sweet Disposition have to do with walking down the streets? If the music distracts you from the movie, it’s a fail. Also, I must put forth that the soundtrack isn’t particularly memorable, because I can’t remember where any of the music fits in. Still very good, but I don’t think it’s worthy of being placed on repeat. If you need examples of good soundtracks, I’d like to cite Joe Hisashi’s and Yoko Kanno’s works (more of the latter). I wouldn’t really say Hans Zimmer since I think his works are overly bombastic at times. (In your FACE Jomah.)I think this is as much as I can reveal, I guess. I really don’t wish to spoil the movie.

Oh wow, I realise that I only talked about the music. Meh whatever. Shall I talk about the story? Okay, Natalie Portman's a ballerina, and they do Swan Lake. That's all you need to know. Also, her name is Nina. Stupid name. And her voice. BLARGH.

My conclusion is that Black Swan is very good. Not omgwtfsuperman amazing, but still good. Definitely worth watching.

So watch it! Go forth! March!
